Our top tip of Tuesday at Southwell is COCKNEY BOY (GB) which runs in the 3.10 penultimate race over an extended mile for trainer Michael Appleby under jockey Alistair Rawlinson.
As a class 5 maiden event featuring three and four year olds, we’re picking through some pretty scrappy looking bits of form to arrive at this selection, which has travelled nicely in front before getting collared on the line the last twice, over slightly further.
Connections look to have been smart here, dropping a little yardage, and finding another weakish race. Indeed, the form shown on course to date has been so-so from this field, so we must consider the lightly raced Ignacio Zuloaga to be the main danger here, and something of an unknown quantity, having run only once, at two, almost a year ago, before being gelded.
At a price of 10/3 overnight, bookmakers are not being generous, but is expected to tough out the top two in the market, who are both stepping up in trip. Will be difficult for those two to reel in if enjoying this surface and getting an easy lead.
