Horse Racing Tips & Naps – Saturday 2 June 2018

There’s racing all around the UK and Ireland on Saturday, including the biggest flat race of them all, the Epsom Derby!

Meetings will be taking place at Chepstow, Doncaster, Epsom, Hexham, Lingfield, Musselburgh, Navan, Tramore and Worcester.

Tramore 8.20 NAP

FLEURYS FORT (IRE) is our nap for Saturday. We tipped this a few days ago, but with that comeback run on board, our ratings should hold up better this time around. Has found a weak enough opportunity at a huge price. Take extra places if you can, but a win is not unlikely today.

  • Trainer: L Yound
  • Jockey: R P Treacy
  • Early odds: 22/1
  • Recommendation: Each-Way (extra places where available)

2018 Investec Derby – Epsom 4.30

Its Derby Day! We’ve assessed this race, just like any other race, so, while we don’t have ordinary tips, here is how we read this, the greatest flat race on the planet!

The likely favourite, SAXON WARRIOR (JPN) is hard to see past. Has put down the third best time in our ratings, on bare stopwatch, but the manner of those successes were very very impressive. Actually the best ever performance was on debut, in our book. Has never gone more than a mile, but has speed in abundance, and Aiden O’Brien knows how to win this race.

That said, a price of 4/5 will put off a few, and the soft going may make this a stern test, too.

If its longer prices you’re after, then consider KEW GARDENS (IRE) for the same team at an interesting looking 28/1. Easy to back, and Donnacha O’Brien always seems to be on the right one of late (as in yesterday’s Oaks). Our ratings make this out to be the winner by a sliver under today’s conditions, but we do need to be wary of that, as the favourite has never been beaten, so could have more in the locker.

The other one we recommend at a longer price for an each-way shock is KNIGHT TO BEHOLD (IRE) for Harry Dunlop under Richard Kingscote. Won the Lingfield trial nicely, has gone well on soft before, and we liked what the stopwatch said last time out too. The trip and ground should not be an issue, and comes here in good heart. Could easily make the frame, and a win is not out of the question.

If you’d like an even longer shot, which is just what happened in the Guineas, then John Gosden sends SEVENNA STAR (IRE) who has run on softer going, including when putting down a nice time on heavy ground at Windsor. Could bring back some place money at a whopping 50/1.

Good luck!
